One group received a placebo, while the other received 60,000 IU of vitamin D every month (2,000 IU per day) for five years.

The experiment saw 1,336 significant cardiovascular events, including heart attacks, strokes, and coronary artery operations.

The vitamin D group had a slightly reduced rate of serious heart issues than the placebo group, especially for individuals taking statins at the start of the research.
